MAP - Mentorship, Aftercare, Presence

Mentorship - A sustained and supportive relationship between individuals who share their knowledge, experience and understanding with someone who is willing to benefit.

Aftercare - Within the ability of the coach, to provide guidance as required to the focal member as it relates to locating and maintaining shelter, employment, positive connections in the community, a sense of belonging and spirituality.

Presence - Being a positive influence in the focal member's life, while maintaining respect for the time, energy and abilities of the coach.

Jail - Ottawa Carleton Detention Centre

Coach - A member of the community who has been trained and accepted into MAP to provide mentoring and aftercare in a focal member's life.

Focal Member - A person who has volunteered for and been accepted into MAP and has agreed to maintain a relationship with his/her coaches for a period of one year, in the interest of assisting him/her become a productive and positive member of his/her community.

MAP Steering Committee - The decision making body of MAP. They are responsible for:

* Creating and maintaining MAP structures and standards.
* Overseeing the selection, training, and supervision of coaches.
* Overseeing the screening and selection of focal members.
* Overseeing the creation of MAP teams.
* Speaking for MAP with any other person or agency.
