| MAP's mission is to provide mentorship, aftercare and a positive presence to people who have agreed to participate in the program and are being (or have recently been) released from jail. This will be undertaken by three coaches, with the support of the MAP director or MAP staff person. The MAP Team's mandate is to remain a positive presence in a focal members' life for a three month period. The agreement can then be renewed. The goal is to assist the focal member in becoming a positive and productive member of his/her community.
The boundaries of the relationship between the focal member and the MAP volunteer should be established from the outset of the relationship. It should be made clear to the focal member what the MAP volunteer is and is not to the focal member. The rationale for this is that false expectations are not created and the focal member is not 'set-up' for disappointment or rejection as the relationship progresses, due to unclear or false expectations. |
